Although small, eyes really are, the “windows to the soul” medically speaking. So much can be learnt about the rest of the body by examining the eyes. I really find this fascinating.
Too hard to choose one! So many little procedures make a really big difference to a patient’s vision and eye comfort.
Prof Fred Hollows: such a good observationist. He saw little details others did not and was always asking why.
I have a letter from a patient from many years ago, thanking me for listening to her and recommending a simple blood test that detected a disease. It had caused years of ill health. She was only young, with children, really struggling and miserable. Once her disease was diagnosed and treated, she returned to good health. The letter she sent me was really heart felt and very lovely. I still have it and I’m very glad I was able to help her.
Exercise: I like running and going to the gym. I love my dog, even if he digs up my garden.
